Staying on Trend: Television Graphics at WCCO

MARCH LUNCHEON
w/Casey Kespohl, Creative Director, WCCO Television
Thursday, March 25
12-noon @ Great River Regional Library, Mississippi Room, St. Cloud

Casey Kespohl, Creative Director, WCCO

Ever wondered what goes into strong broadcast design? Now that’s a “Good Question.” We’ve seen their graphics grow over the years – from going “Inside the Box” to the state fair WE POWER station, WCCO “knows more” when it comes to reinforcing their brand.

Please join Casey Kespohl, Creative Director, WCCO Television, as he examines what is required of a graphic designer in the broadcast industry. Casey will discuss how the industry has evolved, how a designer considers all mediums and the influence that broadcast design has on its audience. He will also discuss the importance of brand identity in the perpetually changing world of broadcast.

As the industry continues to grow visually and television blends with new media, one thing is holding it all together… good visual communication.

About Casey Kespohl

Casey Kespohl, Creative Director, WCCO Television got his start in television as a courtroom sketch artist in 1992. Although his sketches were “not good”, his strong print design landed him a job as a print designer at a television station. One day, his Art Director asked him if he’d like to try his hand at broadcast design. His reply was “no.” When asked why, he said he didn’t think he understood it. His Art Director asked “why not?” and he replied, “Because I think it looks bad.” His Art Director said, “So do I… Just make your print design move and we’ll put it on TV.” He was hooked.

Since then, Casey has served in many roles in the creative field, including: graphic designer, art director, producer, creative director and brand director. He moved to the Twin Cities and started working at WCCO in March of 2003.

Casey enjoys photography, napping and taking pictures of people napping. For more information on WCCO creative, visit: http://www.wccocreative.com
